by: Natasha Castillo
St. Paul’s Buwan ng Wika ‘09 celebration was culminated in Ayala Center, Cebu last August 28. It was opened by a doxology from the Dance Club followed by a band explosion performed by the SPRINGBOARD ( a group of musically-inclined 4th year students) singing a medley of Tagalog songs. Philippine cultural dances and folk songs highlighted this big event. It was made even more festive with the Balagtasan and Tula. The students and teachers did make tremendous effort in the preparation and practices. The backdrop showcasing the pride of the Filipinos was a sight that gave the stage a Pinoy touch.
This month-long celebration bannering the theme “Lahing Filipino, Ipagmamalaki ko", which aimed to help the students to better understand and ignite love of the colorful culture of the Philippines. It was well-planned and practices were started even before August came. It was evident that the audience composed of parents, relatives and friends enjoyed as they watched with great pride seeing the students performed. The program was ended with a finale of all the students through the song “ Filipino .“ It was surely a huge success and a memorable one too.
